SHACKATHON

Every year, NC State participates in Shackathon, an event to fundraise for Habitat for Humanity. Student organizations bid on an eight-by-eight spot to build their shack. Throughout the following week, members of the organization must man the shack at all times while they raise money for the cause. In 2024, we were proud to raise over $1000 with the help of our club. We sold "genuine, hand-made shotskis" from repurposed skis that were donated to us by local shops. And as for the quality of our shack, well the pictures speak to that!

BACK

We also started the Sklub Shreds Back initiative to better the communities we visit. For the past season, we have been running food drives for various organizations such as Boone Hunger and Health Coalition, North Central WV Community Action, and Parent-Child Center of Rutland County. This year, we plan to continue our philanthropic efforts by supporting organizations with a variety of donations- from hygiene supplies to nonperishable food. And with a growing club, we anticipate growing donations!

Philanthropic Help - Our main Philanthropic activity our club embarks on, is Shack-A-Thon, an annual event at NC State in which student org's build, sleep in, and raise money out of wooden shacks, in a bid to see which organization can raise the most money for Habitat For Humanity, This past year not only did we have the best shack by far, we also raised over a thousand dollars. Our main way of doing this, was selling shot skis, which were mostly donated by local ski shops, if you have old skis you would like to donate, or just want to sponsor our shack, please shoot us an email at recreationalskiclub@ncsu.edu. Another one of our philanthropic ventures is what we like to call Sklub Shreds Back, in which for every one of our seasonal trips we do a food drive to benefit a food bank of the community that hosts us, and we are proud to have donated lots of food last year (It's hard to count), Typically we purchase and donate the food at our destination, but shoot us an email if you have food to donate.Thank you for helping us make the world a better place.
